Laurieton is
a quaint fishing village and holiday destination at the mouth of
the Camden Haven River on the mid-north coast of New South Wales.
It has often been termed the "Mid North Coast's best kept secret"
and is a comfortable 4 hour drive north of Sydney and 7 hours south
from Brisbane.
Laurieton is
the main commercial hub of the Camden Haven region. The
region stretches from Comboyne, 50kms west of the coast, to the
Pacific Ocean, taking in the villages of Comboyne, Kendall, Kew,
Bonny Hills, North Haven, Laurieton and Dunbogan as well
as the beautiful countryside of the Lorne and Stewarts
River Valleys.
With its neighbours
North Haven and Dunbogan, Laurieton has about
5,000 people and forms the southernmost community of the Port Macquarie-Hastings
Local Government Area.
To the west of Laurieton
is North Brother Mountain, in Dooragan National Park, an outstanding
lookout point that offers views to Crowdy Head in the south and
Port Macquarie in the north.
30 minutes north by
road is the busy coastal resort town of Port Macquarie, first
established in 1821 as a convict settlement. In Port you'll
find modern shopping centres, hospitals, galleries, museums and
entertainment. Or, if you prefer a "rural' atmosphere
the delightful township of Wauchope, 25 minutes to the west,
offers another alternative to your shopping day out.
The Camden Haven is
well serviced by public transport. Busways
runs a regular service between Laurieton and Port Macquarie
